Hundreds of parishioners attended the 'Battle's Over' events to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War. Events during the day included a memorial service and bell ringing at St Mary's Church, with an afternoon tea at the Barn. In the evening, Norman Lamb MP read the Battle's Over 'Tribute to the Millions' and a lone bugler played the Last Post. At 7pm Hickling's bonfire beacon was lit, joining 1,000 other beacons around the country to symbolise the end of the darkness of war 100 years ago. A spectacular firework display followed, based on the theme; 'Flanders Fields/Tribute to the Fallen'. Nearly £1,000 was raised for next year's firework display.
