Orchard of Hope update

We have now completed the second phase of this unique community orchard project. Volunteers and tree sponsors planted a further 34 trees and enjoyed a much deserved cup of tea and piece of cake.
The resulting orchard is magnificent, every tree is a heritage fruit tree. We have cooking and eating apple, pear, cherry, mulberry, quince and medlar trees. Over the coming years local people will be able to enjoy the trees as they flower and fruit, and know that they bear witness to the community spirit the has kept Hickling and its residents supported through these difficult times.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed, either by sponsoring or by planting and nurturing our trees. Don’t forget that our newly planted trees need water, so if you are going to the playing field, please take a bottle of water with you and just pour it round the base of any tree - they will very much appreciate your care.
